Healthwise and the Informed Medical Decisions Foundation to Merge

Fallback Image

Healthwise is the nonprofit with the world’s greatest reach in patient engagement. The Informed Medical Decisions Foundation is the nonprofit with the world’s greatest depth of knowledge about shared decision making. These two nonprofits announce our pending merger. It is a merger made in heaven for patients, providers, and payers alike. More patients will get the information they need to make the decisions that are right for them. More providers will have easy access to decision tools and to the preferences expressed by their patients. And all Healthwise clients will get to share in the triple-aim benefits that result: better care, better health, and lower costs. The Foundation brings to Healthwise new strengths in assessing medical evidence and value demonstration, and practice change management through its rich experience in research and demonstration projects. Clients will see an almost immediate impact in our service offering and implementation support. All of this is nicely tied together through the advocacy and policy work for which both organizations are well known. The two organizations retain their names but with a common mission: help people make better health decisions. I will remain the Healthwise CEO. Michael Barry retains his title of president of the Informed Medical Decisions Foundation and adds the title of Healthwise chief science officer. “I am excited that the new board of directors will bring us added credibility across healthcare and beyond,” says Donald W. Kemper, M.P.H., founder and CEO.  “The new 13-member board will be chaired by Peggy O’Kane, long-time CEO for the National Committee on Quality Assurance (NCQA).” About Healthwise Healthwise is a nonprofit organization that helps people make better health decisions.
