Editor’s Note: healthaffairs.org recently ran an interesting piece on an effort by the Health and Human Services (HHS) Department to track how the US health system is performing. The Health System Measurement Project allows people to track the progress being made toward providing all Americans with access to affordable, high-quality healthcare and toward reducing health disparities. Through the presentation of data, including Percentage of People Who Did Not Receive or Delayed Needed Care Due to Cost in the Past 12 Months, Percentage of People Who Reported Difficulty Seeing a Specialist, Percentage of Families with High Out-of-Pocket Medical Expenses for Care, and so on, the data offers new insights into the delivery of care and potentially points to new opportunities.
