The Monitor Sara Rodriguez couldnt stop wringing her hands as she sat at a dentist office, waiting to return to the United States.
Two of her family members had had close calls with organized crime members in Mexico. She didnt want to be here, but she had no other choice. She didnt have the $8,000 she needed to get her dental work done in the US. I am poor, Rodriquez said during a morning visit this past July. I am just an employee. No one referred her to Dr. Maribel Martinez Escobar. It just happened to be the closest dentists office to the port of entry, and she didnt want to go any deeper into the city than she had to. I even came early because I think the shootings dont take place until later in the afternoon, Rodriguez said.
