Global cancer deaths among men projected to increase by 93% by 2050, study finds

cnn.com – Cancer cases and deaths among men are expected to surge by 2050, according to a study published Monday, with large increases among men age 65 and older.
For the study, published in the journal Cancer, researchers from Australia analyzed cases and deaths from 30 different types of cancer in 185 countries and territories in 2022 to make projections for 2050.
The study projects overall cancer cases among men will increase from 10.3 million in 2022 to 19 million in 2050, an increase of 84%.

How to get relief from unexpectedly high medical bills

abcnews.com – Unexpectedly high medical bills are common in the United States, but there are ways to get relief. According to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, one in five Americans are affected by outstanding medical debt, for a total cost of $88 billion.
In a 2022 study, the bureau found that roughly 20% of U.S. households report that they have medical debt, with collections appearing on 43 million credit reports.

Is COVID endemic yet? Yep, says the CDC. Here’s what that means

Many want employer benefits for substance, alcohol use issues—but few have them, survey finds

fiercehealthcare.com -Though more than half of workers believe employer support for substance and alcohol issues is important, only 14% have access to such a benefit, a new survey finds.
The 2024 annual substance use management survey, conducted by virtual substance use disorder clinic Pelago, reached a representative sample of more than 1,200 working adults this past spring. It found that about a third of the workforce—or 60 million Americans—experience personal or family issues related to substance or alcohol use.

CMS touts transparency and expediency in finalized transitional medical device coverage program

The House Ways and Means Committee passed legislation in June that significantly diverges from the final notice.
CMS proposed the Transitional Coverage for Emerging Technologies (TCET) pathway in June 2023.

FDA approves EpiPen alternative, a nasal spray for anaphylaxis

statnews.com – On Friday, the Food and Drug Administration approved the first needle-free treatment for adults and kids with severe allergic reactions. The approval introduces a competitor from ARS Pharma to older epinephrine products, like the EpiPen.
Neffy, as the product is called, is a nasal spray that delivers the same drug used to treat anaphylaxis.
